Dark Souls Remastered Black Screen, Stuttering And Fixes

Dark Souls Remastered is the remaster of the original Dark Souls that launched for PC back in 2012. The remastered version not only beings better visuals but also brings improved performance for in-game areas that were almost unplayable in the original.

The following are the errors and issues that players have been experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

Can’t Create New Save
Many PC gamers have reported that they are encountering the issue that doesn’t let them create a new Save file for Dark Souls remastered. While this is an annoying issue but the solution to this problem is very simple.

The reason why you aren’t able to create a new save might be due to anti-virus not letting it. Just make an exception for the game in your anti-virus and you will be able to create save file for the game.

Crash Fix
The game crash is another issue that Dark Souls Remastered players have been experiencing. According to reports, players encounter this issue while they try to access settings in the game.

To fix this solution all you have to do is open up your Nvidia Control Panel and select Change Resolution. Here create a custom resolution meaning if you have a 1080p display then create a custom resolution that is native to your display in this case 1920×1080.

Also, make sure that you set the refresh rate to 60 Hz. Before you exit, select this custom resolution and apply it. Now go to the game’s ini file located at “C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls\DarkSouls.ini” and make sure that refresh rate is set on 60. This should resolve the crash issue for you.

Green Screen Flicker Fix
This is another one of the issues that players have been experiencing that causes the screen to go green which renders the game unplayable. To the issue is related to Desktop color depth which might not be compatible with the game.

To fix this issue you need to open up the Nvidia control panel and select “Change Resolution” and select “Highest (32 Bit)” under Desktop Color Depth and the issue will not bother you again and you will also be able to play the game in fullscreen.

Blck Screen Fix
Black Screen is an issue the common is PC games, however, this is not a fatal error that can’t be fixed. To resolve this issue all you need to do is start the game and when the black screen appears press “ALT+Enter” and the game will go into the Windowed mode.

Now go to the video settings and change the resolution to your display’s native resolution and you will be able to play the game in fullscreen without black screen issue.

If this doesn’t fix the problem then the issue might be with your GPU driver. Update your GPU driver to the latest version if you haven’t already and if you have, then try reverting back to an older driver. This should resolve your Black Screen issue.

Controller Not Working
This is another one of the issues for PC players that want to play the game using Xbox One controller. However, there is a possible fix for this issue.

To resolve the issue, all you have to do is open up Steam and go to the settings and click on “In-game”. Here check the “Use Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam controller on Desktop”.

Now Select “Controller” from the same menu from where you selected “In-game” and then click on “general controller settings”. Here you will have some checkboxes and you need the check the “Guide Button Focuses Steam”.

Launch the game and press “Shift + Tab” to open Steam overlay and click on controller configuration. At the bottom, select Browse configs and then select “Show other Controller Types” in the bottom.

Here you will have some options and select the Xbox One Controller config and press “Ok” when prompted. Now just press Done and you will be able to use the Xbox One controller with Dark Souls Remastered.

Low FPS Fix, Stuttering Fix
PC games often face performance issues due to so many different configurations and PC players of Dark SOuls Remastered are facing random FPS drops and stuttering while playing the game.

To fix the FPS drops and stuttering in the game, update your GPU driver to the latest version as they bring game-specific optimizations which help improve the performance.

Also, make sure there is no unnecessary process is running in the background using too much of your HDD and CPU. Open Task Manager is close that background process.

Another thing you can try to improve the performance is open the Nvidia Control Panel and select “Manage 3D settings”. Here select the “Program Settings” and select Dark Souls from and list.

Now go through the options and look for V-sync option and set to Fast. This should resolve the stuttering the low FPS issue for you.
