PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team returns to Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 16 a 6 p.m. to face the Davidson Wildcats. The game is the first of three-straight for the Explorers on their home court and is in partnership with the Institute for the Development of African American Youth (IDAAY) to raise awareness for social justice.SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle (12-11, 5-6 A10) returns back to Tom Gola Arena for a three-game stretch following a three-game skid, most recently dropping the contest on the road against Richmond, 75-58. The Spiders took an early five-point lead within the first minute of play and never trailed the remainder of the game pulling ahead by as many as 24 in the fourth frame.
- Kayla Spruill recorded her 17th game in double figures this season including her fourth-straight. Spruill went 8-of-10 from the field marking just the second Explorer this season to shoot at least 75% from the field in a single- game. The senior is a force to be reckoned with from the long range. She is currently shooting 46.5% from beyond the arc this season. The performance puts her at second in the nation and first in the conference.
- Jaye Haynes notched her seventh 10+ point game this season with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting including 1-of-2 from deep and 1-of-2 from the line. She ranks second on the squad in field goal percentage shooting 44.7% this season.
- Masciantonio continues to be the leading helping hand for the Explorers averaging 4.7 assists per game. She currently ranks second in the league and 23rd in the nation in assist to turnover ratio (2.3). The senior point guard leads the team in assists with 107 and averages 4.7 per game, fourth in the conference.
- The Explorers continue to lead the conference in free throw percentage shooting 77.1% from the line this season. La Salle has won the turnover battle in 16 of its contests this season and currently sits second in the league in turnover margin (2.74).
- Davidson (13-11, 4-8 A10) enters the contest following a 54-51 loss to the Saint Louis Billikens. The Wildcats struggled offensively shooting just 30.9%.
- The Wildcats come to Tom Gola Arena amidst a four-game road stretch dropping two of its first three while picking up 77-71 victory against Richmond.
- Elle Sutphin recently dropped an incredible 32-point performance marking only the second time that effort has been reached in program history.
- Chloe Welch is another player to watch for. She has scored in double-figures during five of her last six games and has averaged 14.3 points over the stretch. She has a team-high 29 steals this season and is averaging 5.0 boards per game. The game against La Salle marks the 100th of her career as a Wildcat.
- The Wildcats are currently 4-2 this season in games determined by five points or less. The squad has also hit 25 or more field goals in 10 games this year and are 9-1 when reaching that target.
- The Explorers trail the Wildcats in the all-time series by a single game, 4-5, dating back to just 2015. La Salle has yet to record a victory on its home court against Davidson.
- La Salle has fallen to Davidson by as many as 19 points as little as four. On the other hand, the Explorers' largest margin of victory sits at 11 points with it smallest being nine (two times).
- La Salle snapped a four-game losing streak to the Wildcats last season led by Claire Jacobs and Kayla Spruill with 27 and 17 points, respectively.
