St. John's Visits Cacciatore Stadium for Three-Game Slate - DePaul Blue Demons

CHICAGO — DePaul softball will jump back into BIG EAST play on Friday and Saturday with a three-game set with St. John's at Cacciatore Stadium. The two squads will forgo the traditional series format due to the Easter holiday and play a doubleheader on Friday, April 15 and single-same on Saturday, April 16.

Friday's twin bill will begin at 12 p.m. with the second game following approximately 30 minutes after the first game. Both contests will be streamed on FloSports with a subscription required. The season finale scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday will be broadcast live to a national audience on CBS Sports Network. Live stats for all three games can be accessed on the DePaul schedule page.

DePaul steps into the back-half of conference play at 17-19 on the season and 6-6 in league action. The Blue Demons are just outside of the conference tournament picture and will look to make up some ground in the final four weekends of play. Coach Adix-Zins and Co. have won five of their last six league games and five of their last seven overall after dropping a midweek matchup with Illinois State on Wednesday afternoon. Through 12 BIG EAST games, the Blue Demons have four batters punching above a .300 average in Brooke Johnson, Anna Wohlers, Kate Polucha and Nicole Sullivan. Polucha leads the way with 14 hits and 13 RBI while Wohlers, a two-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, has tallied 13 hits including eight for an extra base and driven in eight runs. Johnson provides the pop with seven extra base hits and 7 RBI while drawing a team-high 11 walks in conference games. Erin Hocker and Sarah Lehman provide the 1-2 punch in the circle. Lehman, the reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, provides the punch outs with a staff-best 80 on the season including 46 in eight appearances in league action.

St. John's enters the weekend series 10-27 and 4-11 in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm picked up a 4-1 win on Wednesday against Long Island. London Jarrard is the lone batter hitting above .300 with a .393 average with a team-high 35 hits and 14 RBI. Amy Mallah and Anese Thompson have also driven in 10 runs apiece. St. John's has totaled just four home runs on the season. In the circle, Hannah Mearns and Carolina Zamudio have combined for 39 appearances and 163. 1 innings pitched. Zamudio has a staff-best 73 punch outs on the spring campaign. Bob Guerriero enters his fourth season at the helm after serving six seasons as an assistant in Queens.

The Blue Demons own the all-time series in dominating fashion, 32-7. DePaul has won the last four meetings and six of the last seven including a series sweep last season in Queens. The last Red Storm victory came in April of 2019.

Following the weekend with St. John's, DePaul will hit the road for a midweek matchup at Northern Illinois on Wednesday, April 20. The Blue Demons will host their final league series of the season when the Georgetown Hoyas visit Lincoln Park April 22-24.
