No.19 Auburn Takes First Two Games of Three-Game Series with Niagara - NU Purple Eagles.com

AUBURN, ALA – Niagara dropped both games of Friday's twin bill to No. 19 Auburn. The Purple Eagles got shutout in game one, 8-0, followed by a 15-7 loss in game two. 
 
Game 1 Recap
• The Purple Eagles found themselves in a 5-0 hole after Auburn put up a five spot in the second inning.
• Niagara's starter, Riley Crum would be relieved by Cara Leone to start the third.
• Crum allowed five runs on four hits in 2.0 innings of work before moving to first base.
• Leone would surrender one run in her first two innings of work before Auburn pushed across another in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead in the fifth.
• Niagara's first base runner came in the form of a leadoff walk by freshman Bayleigh McCullough. Niagara would get a second runner on base in the inning but failed to cut into the Auburn lead.  
Maggie Kellner singled up the middle to start the fourth. Madison LaPenta would come in to pinch run and be thrown out one pitch later trying to steal second.
Shayna Myshrall started the fifth with a base knock, the third straight inning Niagara started with a lead off base runner. The next three Purple Eagles went down on strikes to end the inning and strand Myshrall at first.
• A one out walk by Samantha Hare put a runner on first for Niagara in the sixth. The next batter, Kellner, would ground into a double play to end the inning.
Julia Thompson came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning, putting an end to Leone's day in the circle. The transfer pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing four hits, two runs, two walks while punching out three batters.
• Auburn scored the game-clinching run in the bottom of the sixth to give the game its 8-0 final.
 
Game 2 Recap
Maggie Vesneske started game two with a leadoff walk and two pitches later found herself 60 feet away after a stolen base and passed ball allowed her to advance to third.
• Hare would hit an infield single to drive in Vesneske and give Niagara its first lead of the day, 1-0.
• Auburn put up five runs in the home half of the first to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.
• The Tigers would add five more in the second to take a 10-1 advantage.
• Hare hit a two-run home run to left center to put Niagara down 10-3 in the third. The sophomore drove in all three runs to that point in the contest for Niagara.
• Thompson relieved Maddie Hickingbottom in the bottom of the third, putting an end to the junior's day in the circle.
• Auburn would push across its 11th run of the contest in the bottom of the third.
• In the top of the fourth with two away Niagara would strike for four runs. The first two came on a double to center by Harrigan, followed by a single from Hare and a double by Kellner.
• The Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and then set the Purple Eagles down 1-2-3 in the fifth to earn the win.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara falls to 11-16 on the season.
• Hare launched her fourth home run of the season and drove in four runs in game two of the doubleheader.
• Kellner collected three hits on the afternoon, including her team-leading 12th double of the season.
• Harrigan picked up two RBI's on a double in the fourth of game two.
• All five of Niagara's hits in game two came with two outs and 4-for-14 with runners on.

• Niagara and Auburn will conclude its three-game set tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. EST.
