Heels Drop Middle Game Of Duke Series - University of North Carolina Athletics - UNC Athletics

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina baseball team had its winning streak stopped at five games on Saturday night as Duke broke a 3-3 tie with six runs in the bottom of the fourth and posted a 9-3 victory at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Alex Stone and Luke Storm each hit a two-run home run for the Blue Devils (11-8, 2-3 ACC) as part of their six-run fourth. Graham Pauley also had a two-run base hit in the inning.

Pauley's hit and Storm's home run both occurred with two outs.

Uncharacteristically, it was the UNC bullpen that yielded the go-ahead runs. Shaddon Peavyhouse (2-2) was charged with three runs in two-thirds of an inning, while Shawn Rapp surrendered three runs in an inning of relief.

Junior right-handed pitcher Nik Pry took the mound for the Diamond Heels (16-3, 4-1) to start the fifth inning and proceeded to strike out a season-high six in three innings of relief without allowing a hit and walking just one.

Angel Zarate singled in the top of the first inning to set a Carolina record for most consecutive games on base in the Super Regional Era (since 1999) with 42. Former Diamond Heel Logan Warmoth reached base safely in 41 consecutive games across the 2016-17 seasons. His hit also extended his hitting streak to 19 games.

Carolina scored two runs with two outs in the second and Johnny Castagnozzi led off the third with home run. The Heels collected just three hits over the final six innings.

Josh Allen (1-2) picked up the win for the Blue Devils in 1.2 innings of relief.
