Unable to complete a sweep of the Mets this weekend, they now take on the Baltimore Orioles, who continue to barely be a baseball team. If this was European soccer, they’d have been relegated years ago.
The Phillies have struggled to beat bad teams like the Cubs and Rockies, but neither are as bad as the O’s, who are 47-102, a whopping 44 1/2 games out of first in the AL East. With the exception of the first-place Braves, the Phillies only face bad teams from here on out:
The Orioles have lost exactly 51 games at home and 51 games on the road, but have won one more road game than home games. They haven’t been an above-.500 team since 2016, and have even finished a season under .300 in the last few years.

Phillies Pitcher Today: Ranger Suárez
The O’s are in Ranger Danger, as the supremely underrated Suárez is on the mound tonight. He boasts a 1.50 ERA over 36 games, including nine consecutive starts, his first starts since 2018.
Suárez has gone five or more innings in each of his last five starts, with 33 strikeouts over 29 innings and only five earned runs allowed. He’s never faced the Orioles, though, so hopefully, their somewhat potent offense can’t hit him hard.
The Phillies bats will face John Means, who has a 3.41 ERA over 23 starts this season. Means has allowed two or more earned runs in each of his last seven starts, and hasn’t had a scoreless outing since May 11. The week before, he pitched a complete-game shutout on 113 pitches against the Seattle Mariners, though, so the former All-Star has some moves.
Means has never faced the Phillies, either, so as Elsa sang in Frozen 2, we’re going “into the unknown.”
