The all-time series between the two schools is tied, 1-1. During the teams' last meeting on Sept. 13, 2014, Duke running back Shaun Wilson broke the school single-game rushing record with 245 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils past Kansas, 41-3, in Durham.

GAME NOTES
After three games, senior running back Mataeo Durant finds himself atop the league charts in numerous categories. Most notably, he ranks first in rushing yards (398), scoring (48 points), total touchdowns (eight), rushing touchdowns (seven), and second in all-purpose yards per game (167.00).
Durant continues to climb up on the Blue Devils' all-time rushing chart. His 102 yards against Northwestern moved him into 18th place with 1,719 career yards and is currently 221 yards away from breaking into the top-10.
Redshirt junior linebacker Shaka Heyward recorded his second consecutive double-digit tackle game against Northwestern last weekend. The Dacula, Ga., native now has seven career double-digit tackle games.
The Blue Devils forced five turnovers (three INTs and two fumbles) against Northwestern for the first time since earning five (four INTs and one fumble) against Tulane on Sept. 4, 2014.
THE LAST MEETING - SEPT. 13, 2014
Freshman running back Shaun Wilson broke the school single-game rushing record with 245 yards to help lift Duke past Kansas, 41-3. Wilson's final rushing yardage came on just 12 carries, good for a 20.4 yards per rush average. His 252 all-purpose yards ranked as the 12th-most in a single game in school history at that time and the second-most by a Duke freshman. Duke outgained the Jayhawks 511-297 in the win and recorded 30-plus points for the third consecutive game. The defense did its part in forcing two turnovers and limiting Kansas to just 17 first downs and only 95 yards through the air. Jeremy Cash headlined the unit with 12 tackles and a half of a sack.
CUTCLIFFE, DUKE IN SEPTEMBER
Duke is 34-21 in the month of September under head coach David Cutcliffe. At home, the Blue Devils are 22-13.

Graduate student quarterback Gunnar Holmberg made his first collegiate start against Charlotte. In his opening three games as Duke's starter, Holmberg has completed 71-of-100 passes for 812 yards with two TDs. The Wake Forest, N.C., native has added 20 completions of 15+ yards, including his first career TD pass -- a 43-yarder to redshirt sophomore Jordan Waters against Charlotte.

Against Northwestern, Duke finished with a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard receiver and a 100-yard rusher for the first time since 2018 when Daniel Jones (396 passing), Johnathan Lloyd (136 receiving), and Deon Jackson (162 rushing) did so against Pittsburgh. Saturday's accomplishments against the Wildcats, marked the 17th time in program history a trio achieved this mark.
ACC LEADERS AMONG TACKLES
Duke is one of four schools in the ACC with three players listed in the conference's top-20 for tackles. Redshirt junior linebacker Shaka Heyward is tops on the list with 32, while redshirt senior safety Lummie Young II sits tied for eighth (25), and sophomore linebacker Dorian Mausi is tied for 16th (21).
HEYWARD NOTABLES
Redshirt junior linebacker Shaka Heyward has registered 1+ tackle in 19 straight contests. He has also recorded fumble recoveries against Pittsburgh (2019), North Carolina (2019), and Georgia Tech (2020), while earning a safety and special teams TD against Georgia Tech in 2020. In 30 career games (20 starts), Heyward has compiled 185 tackles, 18.0 TFL, 6.5 sacks, one INT, three fumble recoveries, and nine QB pressures.
TAKING DOWN THE QB
Redshirt sophomores R.J. Oben and DeWayne Carter as well as redshirt senior Lummie Young IV hold Duke's three sacks on the year. Oben's sack came in the Blue Devil opener at Charlotte, while Carter and Young IV both registered strip sacks against Northwestern during Duke's last outing.
THE RETURN GAME
Duke welcomed back its primary punt returner Josh Blackwell after he missed nearly the entire 2020 season due to injury. In his three games back, Blackwell has returned five punts for 51 yards (10.2). Sophomore Jaylen Stinson has recorded all six of Duke's kickoff returns on the year. He's earned 113 yards on those six returns for an average of 18.83.
