A New Jersey store that sells retro video games and consoles soon will have a third location in the state.
J2Games is opening in Brick in August, owner Jay Fennimore told NJ Advance Media. The unique store will be located at 2791 Hooper Ave.
An official opening date has yet to be announced.
J2Games offers customers the chance to buy, sell or trade video games and consoles that are both old and new. Most of the store’s inventory comes from trade-ins and from private collectors who liquidate their collections. All used products are refurbished and come with a warranty.
“We carry every game console released, going back as far as Atari and Pong,” Fennimore said. “There are not a lot of other (retailers) that span the scope of the entire industry like we do.”
J2Games started selling products online in 1999. The company opened its first brick-and-mortar store in 2016 in Wanamassa, followed by a second in 2020 in Clark.
There are only a handful of other stores in New Jersey, such as Retros Video Games & Electronics in Lawrence Township, that offer similar services.
“It’s an underserved market because there are no game-sellers other than the traditional GameStop,” Fennimore said. “I was surprised by feedback from my customers, and that’s what drove the decision (to open a store in Brick).”
