CHICAGO -- The remainder of Saturday’s game between the White Sox and the Mariners was suspended at approximately 4:40 p.m. CT due to an extended forecast of rain in Chicago. The contest will resume at 1:10 p.m. CT Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field prior to the start of the regularly scheduled series finale.
Saturday’s game was delayed in the bottom of the third, with the contest scoreless. It will be picked up in that same spot and will last nine innings. A White Sox pitcher for Sunday is to be determined, with Dallas Keuchel scheduled to start the original game. Lucas Giolito is set to start Monday night’s series opener against the Twins, per the White Sox probables, but he could potentially work Sunday on regular rest after last starting Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Sunday’s originally scheduled game is scheduled for only seven innings and will begin 30-45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Rosters are frozen for Game 1, but both teams can make moves for Game 2. Major League Baseball and the umpires made the decision since the game had already started.
It was a rough forecast in Chicago from the get-go for the entirety of Saturday, but the White Sox tried to get the game in during a clear window after an initial delay of 1 hour and eight minutes. Lance Lynn struck out four and walked two over three hitless innings, throwing 47 pitches.
José Abreu’s leadoff single in the second was the lone hit of the afternoon. Logan Gilbert fanned three, but neither starter figures to be available Sunday.
Fans with tickets and parking coupons to Saturday’s game can use the value as a gift certificate to any future White Sox regular-season home game, including Sunday. All exchanges can be done at the Guaranteed Rate Field box office. Fans with tickets and parking to Sunday’s game can attend both the completion of the suspended game and the regularly-scheduled contest.
Tickets for Saturday’s suspended game do not transfer to Sunday or any future date. Fans must exchange or purchase new tickets to attend Sunday’s game or any future game.
Sunday’s “Lucas Giolito X-Wing Fighter” bobblehead giveaway (first 15,000 fans) will begin when gates open at 11:40 a.m. prior to the first game of the doubleheader.
