The first half of Super Bowl LV is in the books and, boy, has the connection between Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski stood the test of time. The two NFL legends have connected for two first-half touchdowns to have the Buccaneers leading the Chiefs, 21-6 at the break. The first score came in response to a field goal by Kansas City and capped off a 75-yard drive by the Bucs. The second was courtesy of a number of miscues by the Chiefs defense, including a penalty on a fourth-and-5 field goal attempt that gave Tampa Bay a first down. Immediately after that penalty, Brady threw a laser to Gronk in the end zone for the second time tonight.
Penalties continued to destroy the Chiefs in the first half, particularly in the final seconds. Back-to-back pass interference penalties by Kansas City set the ball at the one-yard line for the Buccaneers and Brady was able to cash in with a passing score to Antonio Brown.
Meanwhile, the Bucs defense has largely done a strong at getting after Patrick Mahomes by beating Kansas City's makeshift offensive line and have been particularly dominant getting off the field on third down. That'll need to continue in the second half as the Chiefs offense -- who has shown the ability to explode at a moment's notice -- will likely throw the kitchen sink as they try to reclaim the lead in an attempt to go back-to-back.
