Are you ready for another AFC Championship Game, Chiefs Kingdom?

Just as we have over the past four seasons, the Chiefs Wire staff will offer its weekly predictions for each Chiefs game, including the playoffs. Below you’ll find all of our picks for Kansas City’s AFC title game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 5:40 p.m. CT.

I picked a much closer game earlier in the week when Mahomes’ status was in doubt, but everyone knows that he changes the entire complexion of this game. If Chad Henne were quarterbacking there would be little room for error. With Mahomes, he takes the pressure off to an extent.

I find myself looking at the Bills and outside of the amazing connection between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, I don’t see how they possibly have the firepower to keep up with the Kansas City offense. Defensively, Buffalo has an underrated secondary, but they’ve struggled to cover tight ends all season. That spells a big day for Travis Kelce, who has touchdowns in five straight games and hasn’t caught fewer than seven passes in the last nine weeks.

One thing that does concern me for the Chiefs is their cornerback depth. If Bashaud Breeland and Rashad Fenton don’t play, they’ll be very short-handed behind the trio of projected starters. An injury there could make things go bad on the defensive side of the ball and turn this game into a shootout.

Bottom line: The Bills are undoubtedly one of the better teams in the AFC conference, but the playoff experience and talent that this Chiefs team has is unmatched.

The Kansas City Chiefs return to the AFC Championship game, home at arrowhead stadium for a third straight year. After a close call against the Cleveland Browns in the divisional round that featured Patrick Mahomes exiting early with a concussion.

Kansas City will have the full services of Mahomes after he cleared NFL concussion protocols earlier in the week. He will be utilized to the fullest without limitations against the Bills defense. I don’t expect the Chiefs offense to have the same efficiency running the football even if Clyde Edwards-Helaire returns to the lineup. Big plays made by Tyrann Mathieu and Chris Jones will be vital in slowing down Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs’ connection.

The game will remain close throughout, culminating in a game-winning field goal from embattled kicker Harrison Butker. The Chiefs will handle business in a close matchup and punch their ticket to another Super Bowl.

The Chiefs are one game away from going to their second-straight Super Bowl, but first, they will have to take care of the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have clearly been one of the top teams in the NFL, so it’s no surprise to see them still playing on championship weekend.

They will definitely present a big challenge to the Chiefs even though Kansas City already beat Buffalo earlier this season. The Bills have improved a lot since then, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. I can see them keeping up with the Chiefs’ offense, combining for a high-scoring game. I do believe the Chiefs will get win the win mostly because they are the more experienced team, while Buffalo might still be a year away from true contention.

The Chiefs host the Bills in Arrowhead Stadium to see who represents the AFC in the Super Bowl. Kansas City defeated Buffalo back in Week 6 by a score of 26-17. The running game was the spark that led to the win for the Chiefs in the first matchup but with Patrick Mahomes able to go after a concussion scare, the air attack should take center stage in the rematch.

The defending Super Bowl champions proved against the Browns in the divisional round win that they are able to be successful in the midst of adversity, even when that means going forward without the star quarterback. The Bills’ most dangerous duo is Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs so Steve Spagnuolo should scheme up ways to force Buffalo’s offense to lean on other players. The matchup will be a close back-and-forth battle but a late-game drive orchestrated by Mahomes will vault Kansas City to victory.

Chiefs win 27-23.

Buffalo has managed to slay every dragon from the team’s history this year and they have two left, the all-important Conference Championship and Super Bowl title. Josh Allen has virtually reinvented the franchise over the course of the season. Despite a loss to Kansas City in Week 6, looks absolutely poised to upset the Chiefs if given the opportunity.

Talk around the league isn’t unanimous one way or the other on this matchup, and if the final product lives up to the hype, this could be the game of the season. Patrick Mahomes will play, so the Chiefs should probably be a strong favorite if recent history is any indication. I’ll take Kansas City in a closer than might be a necessary win to go to their second Super Bowl in a row.

Chiefs win 27-19

I’m not convinced that this will be the offensive shootout that everyone thinks or hopes it’ll be. I’m expecting a close game where both sides of the ball play their best game. That certainly means scores from both offenses, but it also means forced turnovers and successful defensive stops as well. I think the Chiefs defense did enough last week to show the world they can hold steady during crunch time.

I do expect Josh Allen to make some plays and keep this game close, but I can’t bet against Mahomes whether he’s at 100 percent or 75 percent. I see Mahomes doing what he does best, which is doing whatever he must do to get the Chiefs the win.
