Mavericks game against Pelicans postponed due to COVID protocols - Mavs Moneyball

According to multiple reports, the Mavericks have suffered their first schedule change of the season. The Mavericks will no longer face the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night due to issues caused by COVID-19, as was first reported by Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News.

According to ESPN’s Adrain Wojnarowski, Dallas does not enough players to be eligible for the game. The Mavericks have been battling COVID-19 issues all week, which started when they had three players enter the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Saturday.

Dorian Finney-Smith, Jalen Brunson and Josh Richardson all remained in Denver to quarantine after the game against the Nuggets. It was then reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN that Maxi Kleber had also tested positive for COVID-19. The Mavericks shut down their practice facility on Sunday in wake of that news, which appears to have been just the beginning of their issues.

As the NBA and the Mavericks continued their contact tracing before the Pelicans game, it was clear they wouldn’t have the eight players needed to play in the game. According to The Athletic’s Tim Cato, at least one more Maverick came back positive for COVID-19 today. With four Mavericks in protocols before today, at least five others had to have been ruled out due to contact tracing or positive tests in order for them to be ineligible for this game.
