After forcing a Hokies punt on the first possession of the game, the Tigers offense quickly moved down the field thanks to a 49-yard pass to Braden Galloway. The Tigers would stall in the red zone, however, and settle for a field goal. Virginia Tech responded quickly, inserting backup quarterback Braxton Burmeister into the game and driving 75 yards to take a 7-3 lead.
The lead would not last long, as Clemson responded with a long touchdown drive of its own to take a 10-7 lead just before the end of the first quarter. The Tigers have 136 yards of total offense to the Hokies' 96 after 15 minutes of play.
