COVID-19 Safety
  • Under current Big Ten guidance, public tickets will not be sold for 2020 Penn State football games. Fans are encouraged to cheer the Nittany Lions on from afar through virtual initiatives.
  • The University in conjunction with the Borough of State College, has discouraged visitors in the interests of public health and safety.
  • All regular football game day parking areas will be closed.
  • Tailgating or gathering on campus and/or in university parking lots is not permitted and will be monitored closely.
  • For more information on traffic and parking restrictions, please visit: https://bit.ly/3e5zEIH.
  • Penn State recommends following local health and safety guidelines as Nittany Nation virtually comes together on football Saturdays.
 The Matchup
  • The Penn State-Ohio State game is one of the highlights of the college football calendar, with 16 points deciding the last four meetings.
  • The last three games in Beaver Stadium, dating back to 2014, have been nail-biters with the 2014 game going to double overtime, an unranked Penn State team defeating No. 2 Ohio State in 2016 and a one-point game in 2018.
  • Saturday's game will be the fifth-consecutive primetime Penn State-Ohio State game in Beaver Stadium.
 Home Opener
  • Penn State begins its 61st season in Beaver Stadium with a seven game-winning streak in home openers.
  • The Nittany Lions will face their highest-ranked home-opening opponent since hosting No. 2 Miami (Fla.) in 2001.
  • The Halloween night home opener is Penn State's second (Dickinson, 1888) all-time and its latest home opening date since 1918 (Wissahickon Barracks, Nov. 2). Both of those games finished in 6-6 ties.
  • It is also Penn State's second home opener against a Big Ten opponent, as Penn State's very first Big Ten game took place in Beaver Stadium to open the 1993 season (Minnesota; W, 38-20).
ESPN College GameDay Returns to Happy Valley for Fourth Consecutive Season
  • For the ninth time and fourth-consecutive year, ESPN's College GameDay Built by The Home Depot will be live from Happy Valley Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.
  • Penn State is the only school to host College GameDay in each of the last four years.
  • The show will originate from Beaver Stadium. This is the 21st time College GameDay has been at the site of a Penn State game.
  • Fans will not be permitted to attend College GameDay this year due to COVID-19 protocols. Tailgating and the footprint around Beaver Stadium will not be open to the public.
  • While College GameDay proceeds with no live spectators, ESPN debuted a 'virtual pit' this season to give fans across the country the opportunity to be part of the show each week.
  • Fans can register at www.collegegameday.com for a chance to join the live show. Fans are encouraged to create signs and use #gamedaysigns for a chance to be featured on TV and social.

  • Portions of the net proceeds from this initiative will be donated to THON, as well as Penn State equity and inclusion programs: Bunton-Waller scholarship program and Multicultural Faculty Development Support Funds. The Bunton-Waller scholarship is named in honor of Mildred Settle Bunton (1932), recognized as the first African American woman to graduate from Penn State, and Calvin Hoffman Waller (1904), believed to be Penn State's first African American graduate. The scholarship is given to students who enhance the broad and diverse student population at Penn State.
