Summary
- Gearbox is rumored to reveal Borderlands 4 at Summer Game Fest, potentially providing a first look at the highly-anticipated game.
- Due to potential internal delays, fans may have to wait a while for Borderlands 4 to release, following the success of the previous games.
- Borderlands fans may also get a glimpse of a sequel to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands during SGF 2024.
Summer Game Fest is right around the corner and the latest reports regarding the showcase suggest that the highly-anticipated Borderlands 4 may be the star of the presentation. Despite some turmoil over the ownership of developer Gearbox, the beloved shooter is still regarded as a high-value property and given the success of the third game and the spinoff Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, it stands to reason that publisher Take-Two would want a new entry. With Gearbox confirming its work on a fourth mainline game, an announcement could drop sooner rather than later.
Over on eXputer, leaker Kurakasis stated that 2K will provide a first look at Borderlands 4 during the Summer Game Fest presentation but it's unknown whether the reveal will also confirm a release window. The leaker also notes that there's a chance the game is announced before SGF and the actual showcase will be used to spotlight gameplay and further details on the next chapter in the saga. As with any and all leaks, it's worth taking this report with a pinch of salt but given that Summer Game Fest is so soon, fans won't have to wait long to find out if its accurate.
Borderlands 3: Best Things to Do After Beating The Game
Borderlands 3 is full of replayable moments and unique characters, giving you plenty to do even after the credits roll on the main story campaign.
Borderlands 4 Is All But Confirmed
Gearbox Has Made It Clear It's Working On Something Big
Should Borderlands 4 appear at Summer Game Fest, it would line up with previous updates about the RPG series. Shortly after Gearbox was acquired by Take-Two after Embracer Group sold the studio for $460 million, it confirmed that it was working on another Borderlands sequel, arguably its most famous property. The news came after several reports that the Embracer Group sale substantially shook up development but that Borderlands 4 was still progressing well.
Aside from the supposed announcement that's slated to drop during SGF 2024, it seems unlikely that Borderlands 4 will launch in the near future. Development may be going smoothly but given the recent upheavals at Gearbox, it's difficult to imagine that the game's timeline wasn't affected. A cautious speculator would put the game down to drop in 2025 but this remains to be seen.
Borderlands fans had to wait seven years between the second and third game, so it stands to reason that the fourth may take a while longer yet.
Additionally, alongside Borderlands 4, Gearbox has confirmed that it's also in the early stages of creating a sequel to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. It's entirely possible that this is unveiled during SGF 2024 in place of Borderands 4 but given the similarity of the games, it's doubtful that both will be in attendance. Whatever the case may be, fans of Pandora and all its zany characters should keep their eyes peeled during SGF because even 2K has promised to show off one of its most beloved franchises.
