Mike Breen's twin 'BANG' calls captured chaotic Knicks-Pacers Game 3 ending - New York Post

The Knicks have played many a nail-biter in this postseason, and Game 3 was no different.

Mike Breen, on the call for ESPN, was ready for the moment.

The play-by-play man had a few brilliant calls in the final minutes, including when the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and the Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard traded 3-pointers, the latter of which sealed an Indiana win — and elicited two signature “bang” calls from Breen.

Brunson, with the Knicks down by three, went one-on-one with Doug McDermott and took a 28-foot step-back jumper from behind the arc, hitting nothing but net to get the Knicks even with 41.1 seconds to go in the fourth.

“Brunson, step-back 3, bang! Tie game with 41 seconds remaining,” Breen exclaimed as the shot went down.

But it was the next shot made that Breen bring out even more excitement.

Tyrese Haliburton had a game-high 35 points for the Pacers but missed a potential gamer-winner with 34.1 seconds left in the game.

Aaron Nesmith, though, picked up the offensive rebound, and with Haliburton hounded by a Knicks double team, he swung it to his left to Nembhard.

And even as Nembhard was forced into a deep shot from 31 feet out, he nailed the 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Pacers the lead for good.

“Haliburton double-teamed, shot clock at four [seconds], Nembhard’s gotta put it up,” Breen said as the clock ticked down. “Step back, his 3-pointer, BANG! Nembhard knocked the 3 down! Timeout Knicks.”

It might not have been the pure chaos that saw the Knicks win a wild Game 2 in the first round that saw Breen use the sixth double “bang” call of his career when Donte DiVincenzo knocked down a 3-pointer for New York, but it was some incredible postseason basketball and announcing at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
