Suns dominated by Timberwolves dominate in Game 3, down 3-0 - The Arizona Republic

The Phoenix Suns were routed once again by the Minnesota Timberwolves, 126-109, in Game 3 on Friday.

The victory gives Minnesota a commanding 3-0 lead over Phoenix, which faces elimination on Sunday in the Western Conference first-round playoff series.

Minnesota superstar Anthony Edwards poured in 36 points (12-of-23 FG), nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Phoenix was led by Bradley Beal (28 points, 10-of-18 shooting, 6-of-10 from 3), Kevin Durant (25 points, 8-of-18 FG), and Devin Booker (23 points, 8-of-15 FG, team-high eight assists).

The Suns never had the lead. After five ties and a tight margin that didn’t exceed nine points in the second quarter, the game got away from them midway through the third as Minnesota’s advantage ballooned to more than 20 multiple times thereafter.

The Timberwolves dominated 50-28 in the rebounding battle, 19-8 in second chance points, and 56-36 in paint scoring.

Game 4 is in Phoenix on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

T-Wolves rain from deep, build big lead over Suns in 3rd

Phoenix had no answers for Minnesota, which hit seven of its 13 total treys and inflated its lead to 95-73 to close the third.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored all 12 of his points from four made 3s as the Suns failed in closing out on him.

The Timberwolves reached their biggest lead of 20 twice. They began to lead by double-digits at 69-58 on Karl-Anthony Town’s third made 3 shortly before the eight-minute mark.

Devin Booker was the saving grace for the Suns, as he scored 10 of his 19 points in the third. Kevin Durant (18 points, 5-of-14 FG) went cold as he went 1-of-6 in the period.

Conley Jr. pushes T-wolves' late run in 2nd quarter

Mike Conley Jr. scored all 10 of his points (4-of-7 shooting, 2-of-5 on 3s) in the second quarter and drove Timberwolves' 11-3 run to close the first half as Minnesota took a 59-53 lead at the intermission.

The Timberwolves extended their lead to eight during that run. Despite the margin being mostly close and five ties, the Suns haven't been in front. Anthony Edwards leads all scorers with 16 points.

Kevin Durant has the Suns' team-high 14 points, Bradley Beal scored eight of his 11 in the second period, and Devin Booker has nine points.

Gordon leads Suns' run to cut T-wolves lead in tight 1st quarter

Eric Gordon scored 10 points including two 3s off the bench to spark the Suns' mid-first quarter run, but they trailed the Timberwolves, 34-32 entering the second period. The game remained tight early into the second as well.

The Suns came back from down nine at the 7:18 minute mark, tied the game at 22-22 on Gordon's two made free throws about three minutes later.

The Timberwolves never led by more thay five through the rest of the quarter. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns have 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Minnesota.

Starting lineups

The Suns are starting guards Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, Royce O'Neale to replace the injured Grayson Allen, Kevin Durant at the four spot, and Jusuf Nurkic in the middle.

The Timberwolves will open with Mike Conley Jr. running the point, Anthony Edwards at the two, Jaden McDaniels, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert at center.

Suns' Allen ruled out

Grayson Allen (ankle) will not suit up for Phoenix, per The Republic's Duane Rankin. He was downgraded from questionable in the team's injury report and what Suns coach Frank Vogel said to the media was a game-time decision.

Minnesota coach Chris Finch said the team's backup forward Kyle Anderson has been upgraded to available.

Injury reports: Suns' Allen, Timberwolves' Anderson questionable

Phoenix starter and the NBA's top 3-point shooter Grayson Allen (right ankle sprain) is listed as questionable. Allen reinjured his ankle during the Suns' Game 2 loss in Minnesota.

The only other Suns player on the injury report is Damion Lee (right meniscus surgery), who's been out all season.

Minnesota backup forward Kyle Anderson (right hip pointer) is questionable. He hasn't played since Game 1.
