Rochester, N.Y. — Video game connoisseurs rejoice: The time has come to decide which video games will go into the World Video Game Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play.
The Strong announced this year's nominees Thursday:
- Asteroids, 1979
- Elite, 1984
- GuitarHero, 2005
- Metroid, 1986
- Myst, 1993
- Neopets, 1999
- Resident Evil, 1996
- SimCity, 1989
- Tokimeki Memorial, 1994
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, 1999
- Ultima, 1982
- You Don't Know Jack, 1995
"These are games that have stood the test of time, they're ones that have longevity, they have geographical reach, they have icon status," said Jon-Paul Dyson, the Senior Vice President for exhibits and interpretive resources. "You know these games, and they have influence, they've really changed the course of gaming."
The inductees will be announced on May 9, at The Strong National Museum of Play.
