Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery ejected during Sunday's game vs. Michigan - Hawk Central

Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery was charged with two technical fouls and ejected during Sunday's Big Ten Conference home loss against Michigan.

McCaffery was upset with two offensive fouls called on his team, the first on Dasonte Bowen and the second on Ladji Dembele.

McCaffery was slapped with the first technical at the 12:31 mark of the second half after Dembele's foul. Six seconds of game clock later, after Iowa's Ben Krikke was charged with a shooting foul, McCaffery received his second technical and was ejected.

McCaffery was tossed after shouting "6 to 1, 6 to 1" at the officials, according to the Hawkeye radio broadcast. The Iowa coach was referring to the foul count at that point − six fouls on Iowa, one foul on Michigan.

"I would say it gave us energy for sure," senior Tony Perkins said of the ejection. "But, I mean, we had energy all throughout the game. We just started getting sluggish with the ball, rebounding. I mean, once Fran got ejected, we just came together and said we're just gonna have to fight, you know? Our head coach is not here, so we're just gonna have to depend on each other, depend on other coaches, as well."

Assistant coach Sherman Dillard took over on the Iowa bench after McCaffery left the game.

Iowa lost 90-80.
