Every Wild ‘Starfield’ New Game Plus Variant That’s Been Found So Far - Forbes

Alright, I am about to preface this latest Starfield article with about ten different spoiler warnings, as it is one of the most closely guarded secrets of the game. But as the game approaches a week after release, and ten days after Early Access, some players may be making their way to the end, and initiating NG+.

Without going into detail, from there, there are ways you can essentially speedrun the game (including skipping the entire campaign) to head into more and more NG+ levels. Why would you bother doing that, considering you lose almost everything each time? Well, there’s at least one, very bizarre reasons that players have slowly been discovering.

Again, spoilers spoilers spoilers here, and if you want to experience this on your own, don’t read any further. I experienced one of these on my own at NG+3, and I heard about half of them before researching what the full list was. Or at least what we think is the full list. I don’t think these can start until at least NG+3, but from there, I do not think there is a set order or set time period to experience them from there. I’m not sure if they may repeat as well.

These only affect the opening of the game. The rest of it, past the initial weirdness, is the same, minus upgraded Starborn armor (through NG+10) and ships (through NG+6). And ranking up your temple powers each run.

But here are the variations, and what happens in them:

The Normal One – This is the one you get most of the time. The full crew is there, and Sarah is there asking who you are. You can play dumb and repeat the campaign, or you can skip it and tell them you’re Starborn, either hopping into side quests and faction quests, or racing through finding artifacts to reach the end again and do another NG+

The Kids – This is the one I got myself. You enter Constellation and find a bunch of children playing there who say they’re the different members. But they’re not, they’re just playing explorer, and the actual members of Constellation are all missing. From here, you can get the artifact locations and play normally, however, this instance was bugged for me. It wouldn’t let me save or open my inventory. So I had to reload the end of NG+2, and went I went back in, it was the normal opening with Sarah.

Vengeful Cora Coe – Here, an adult Cora will appear in Starborn armor, and be angry with you that you got her father, Sam Coe, killed. If he did not die in any of your playthroughs you can just tell her that and she’ll give you the artifact locations. But otherwise you’ll have to fight her for them.

Andreja’s Va’ruun Takeover – Here, Andreja isn’t in Constellation, but still loyal to House Va’ruun and is now a zealot. You have to kill her for the artifact locations unless you have the Serpent’s Embrace trait.

A-Hole Walter – Here, an alternate Walter appears and demands 100K for the artifact locations. The “Industrialist” background will get you around this, otherwise, you guessed it, you have to kill him for the locations because you will not have 100K on you.

Just Vasco – The Hunter killed everyone else, and only Vasco is left. He will give you the artifact locations and be sad.

The Hunter – In this one the Hunter also killed all Constellation members, and will give you the artifact locations himself, amused at what you will end up doing next.

A Plant? – Here, you’re greeted by a plant named Sarah Morgan, but it’s not really her. Everyone from Constellation has just retired and Noel will give you the artifact locations.

Companion You – You already exist in this universe, and you will greet yourself on entry. Here, you can recruit yourself as a companion to accompany you through the playthrough. Amazing.

Evil You – A bad version of you has killed everyone in Constellation with only Sarah left barely alive. You have to kill him, and get the artifact locations.

All the Yous – This is probably the best and funniest NG+, where you will meet a room full of alternate yous from various playstyles and factions (no matter what you’ve done in past playthroughs). I think this is one you need to see for yourself, it’s hilarious. This one may also be bugged like my kid one was, and may require you to reload.

So, is there…a point to these? Not really, they’re just fun, and the rest of the playthrough is identical except in the weird “variant” ones you really can’t have any of the normal companions. The actual “upgrades” in NG+ are the Starborn ship and armor and temple powers. If you’re like me, it’s good enough to run into one, then probably just settle down in a NG+ variant and try to max out the game without erasing everything in pursuit of these others. But hey, play how you want.
