Tennessee baseball to face LSU in College World Series elimination game - Knoxville News Sentinel

OMAHA, Neb. − Tennessee baseball will face LSU in a College World Series elimination game Tuesday.

The Vols (44-21) and Tigers (49-16) play at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. LSU dropped into the elimination portion of the bracket with a 3-2 loss Monday against top-seeded Wake Forest (54-10)

The Vols stayed in the CWS with a 6-4 comeback win against Stanford. Chase Burns threw six innings of scoreless relief, striking out nine and allowing two hits with no walks. It was Tennessee's first win in Omaha since 2001, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Tennessee lost its first game 6-3 against LSU to fall into the elimination portion of its bracket. Stanford is the lone team that has been eliminated from the UT side of the bracket.

UT will start Drew Beam, its typical Game 3 starter. Beam is 9-4 with a 3.78 ERA with 79 strikeouts in 78⅔ innings. He has made three straight quality starts for Tennessee, including a scoreless six-inning start against Southern Miss in Game 3 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional.

“I have been commanding my pitches well," Beam said. "Offspeed has been working pretty well for me lately. We have had a pretty good game plan these last few weeks with how we are going to attack certain hitters and how we are going to attack the zone.”

LSU does not have an established Game 3 starter, but could use Riley Cooper in the role. Cooper started Game 3 of the Baton Rouge Regional, the most recent time the Tigers needed a third starter.

Tennessee is 1-3 against LSU this season, including the loss in Omaha. UT lost the first two games of an early season series at LSU before winning the finale 14-7.
