But on the very first play from their own 1-yard line, Allen couldn't handle the snap from center Mitch Morse and the Vikings recovered the ball in the endzone for a touchdown to go up 30-27.
The game was not over though and Allen heroically led the offense down the field and into field goal range. Allen found TE Dawson Knox twice and then completed a pass to Gabe Davis along the sideline — though Davis appeared to juggle the ball on the way to the ground but the play was not reviewed — and the Bills got into field goal territory. Kicker Tyler Bass made a 29-yard field goal to get the game to overtime.
In OT with Minnesota in Buffalo territory, Vikings WR Justin Jefferson, who was making huge catches on a routine basis, hauled in a 24-yard toe-tap catch along the sidelines to get to the Buffalo 2-yard line. Jefferson also made a one-handed grab on 4th down late in the 4th quarter to help force overtime and finished the day with 10 catches, 193 yards and a touchdown.
At the 2-yard line, the Bills defense stepped up again and forced a field goal to make it 33-30.
On the ensuing drive, Allen scrambled for 18 yards then 20 yards to get the Bills into Vikings territory. The offense got the ball down to the Minnesota 20-yard line before Allen threw the INT that allowed the Vikings to come away with the win and go to 8-1.
The Bills fall to 6-3 and third place in the AFC East. They'll host the Brown next weekend at 1 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
