So. F Donte Houston dunks during Monday's game vs. Loyola
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team plays the first two of five straight road games this weekend, heading out to the Rocky Mountains for a pair of games against Mountain West Conference teams, matching up with Colorado State on Friday and Wyoming on Sunday.
The Lions (1-0) are coming off a season-opening 90-72 win at home on Monday over the defending NAIA National Champion Loyola-New Orleans. SLU will look to continue to employ a balanced attack after seeing five Southeastern players score in double-figures in Monday's win over the Wolf Pack, led by freshman Brody Rowbury's 16 points. Roger McFarlane had 13, Matthew Strange added 11, while Boogie Anderson and Alec Woodard each finished with 10 points in the victory. SLU shot a blistering 59% on Monday, including 43.8% from above the three-point arc.
On Friday night, the Lions start the road swing in Fort Collins against Colorado State. The two teams have only met once before in their history, a 67-59 win by the Rams back during the 2017-17 season, a game that was also played in Colorado. CSU (1-0) is coming off of a season opening win of its own, 65-63 over Gardner-Webb, though the Rams had to rally back from an 11-point halftime deficit. John Tonje led the Rams in the comeback with 16 points while Patrick Cartier came off the bench to score 12 points. Colorado State shot 50% in the win, but was even better from long range, hitting 53.8% of their shots from above the three-point arc.
Opening tip of Friday's game against Colorado State is set for 8:30 P.M. central time, 7:30 P.M. mountain time in the Moby Arena and will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
After Friday's game, Southeastern heads even further north to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the Cowboys of Wyoming. Southeastern represents the second straight Southland Conference foe for Wyoming (2-0) after the Cowboys knocked off Nicholls State 79-68 on Thursday. Max Agbonkpolo and Hunter Thompson are the top Cowboys who have played in both games on the year, both averaging 13.5 points per game in the first two. Brendan Wenzel missed the season opener against Colorado Christian but scored 20 points in the win over Colonels. Jeremiah Oden scored 17 in the win over Colorado Christian but did not appear against Nicholls. This is the first ever meeting between SLU and Wyoming.
Tip-off of Sunday's game against Wyoming is set for 3:00 P.M. central time, 2:00 P.M. mountain time in the Arena-Auditorium and will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
