The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 2-0 heading into Saturday's contest. During the last meeting a year ago, Duke was powered by a three-touchdown performance from running back Mataeo Durant and two rushing scores by quarterback Gunnar Holmberg in a 45-17 victory. Quarterback Jordan Moore accounted for Duke's final touchdown when he scampered nine yards for his first career score. The Blue Devils' six rushing touchdowns matched the most in a single game over the past 25 years (Charlotte, 2020 and Virginia, 2010).
In Duke's last outing at Northwestern, seniors Jalon Calhoun and Eli Pancol both topped 100 yards receiving with 108 and 106 yards, respectively, to become the first duo since T.J. Rahming (190) and Anthony Nash Jr. (104) did so against Virginia in 2015.
After scoring on its opening drive against Northwestern, Duke is now 12-1 when scoring a touchdown on its opening drive since the start of the 2017 season.

GAME NOTES
Junior defensive back Jaylen Stinson earned ACC Player of the Week honors following Duke's 31-23 win over Northwestern. Stinson was tabbed the conference's defensive back of the week after he logged 11 tackles, forced one fumble and broke up one pass. With 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, he jarred the ball loose from Northwestern running back Evan Hull who was less than a yard from the goal line. The ball was recovered by Duke's Brandon Johnson in the end zone to seal the Blue Devils' victory.
The Blue Devils currently rank fourth in the ACC with 480.5 total yards of offense per game. Duke put up 500 yards against Temple in its opener and then recorded 461 against Northwestern. The Blue Devils also find themselves fourth in rushing (196.50) and passing (284.00) offense in the conference.
After finishing the 2021 season last in the ACC in turnover margin, the Blue Devils are tied for first in the league and tied for fifth nationally in the category with +2.50 turnovers per game. Duke leads the conference and is tied for third in the country with five fumble recoveries.
ACC SCHOOLS IN NORTH CAROLINA
2022 marks the first season in which Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest have all started 2-0. 1892 was the first year in which they all fielded a team.
NEVER TRAILING
The Blue Devils have yet to trail in a contest to start the 2022 season. The last time Duke won eight consecutive quarters was when it begin the 2017 season. he Blue Devils were in front during their opening eight quarters before tying Baylor 7-7 in the first frame of a contest on Sept. 16.
DEFENDING BROOKS FIELD AT WALLACE WADE
In non-conference regular season games held at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, Duke is 20-3 (.870) in its last 10 seasons. The Blue Devils' last out-of-conference regular season loss at home came against No. 15 Notre Dame in 2019. Prior to that the last time Duke dropped a non-conference game at home was in 2015 in a contest with No. 23 Northwestern.
THE RUN GAME
The Blue Devils returned three of its top four rushers from a year ago, including quarterback Jordan Moore, who ran for 221 yards on 44 attempts (5.0) with three touchdowns. After two games in 2022, Duke is fourth in the conference in rushing offense with a mark of 196.5 yards per game. Leading the charge are redshirt juniors Jaylen Coleman and Jordan Waters. Coleman has compiled 126 yards on 19 attempts with two scores, while Waters has recorded 123 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns.
During Duke's last outing at Northwestern, Waters found paydirt twice for his first career multi-score game. He finished the contest with a career-high 91 yards on 10 carries, including Duke's longest rush of the year, a 42-yard touchdown run. Coleman had 11 carries for a career-high 83 yards, including a 16-yard rushing score. Both players are averaging over 6.5 yards per rush with Waters at 8.2 and Coleman 6.6.
LEADING THE WIDE OUTS
Senior wide receiver Jalon Calhoun leads the Blue Devils with 12 receptions for 198 yards in Duke's opening two games. He is currently first in the ACC in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (99.00). He's also second in receptions per outing (6.00), third in receptions, and ninth in yards per catch (16.50). Of his 12 receptions on the year, eight have gone for a first down and four covered 20+ yards.
BIG GAINS AND QUICK STARTS
During Duke's most recent outing against Northwestern, sophomore quarterback Riley Leonard connected with senior wide receiver Eli Pancol on a season and ACC-long 81-yard reception. That play was a career-long mark for both players. Leonard also teamed up with senior wide out Jalon Calhoun for a 51-yard pickup against the Wildcats. In total during his opening two games of the 2022 season, Leonard has registered nine passes of 20+ yards.
Leonard is strong out the opening gate as well. The Fairhope, Ala., native is a combined 12-of-13 passing in Duke's first quarter.
DEFENSIVE SECONDARY
Duke lost four of its five starters in the defensive secondary after the 2021 season. The lone returner is safety Jaylen Stinson, who recorded 43 tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss and three pass breakups just a season ago. Joining Stinson so far this year has been junior Da'Quan Johnson, sophomore Brandon Johnson and Joshua Pickett as well as freshman Chandler Rivers. The coaches have also brought in veteran leadership with the addition of graduate student transfers Darius Joiner and Datrone Young.
This unit has compiled 21 pass breakups on the year to lead the ACC. The next closest team is Pittsburgh (14) and NC State (13). 14 of those 21 pass breakups came in Duke's victory at Northwestern. Over the last 10 years, the Blue Devils have only registered double-digit pass breakups in a single game on three other occasions (10 vs. Virginia in 2014; 11 vs. Miami in 2013; 10 at Virginia Tech in 2013).
Duke is the only school with three players with four passes defended. Johnson, Pickett and Shaka Heyward all have four on the year.
DEFENSIVE PRESSURE
Redshirt juniors R.J. Oben and DeWayne Carter led Duke's defensive front a year ago. The pair compiled 5.0 and 4.5 sacks, respectively, on the season. They also chipped in with a combined 14 quarterback pressures.
So far on the year, Carter and redshirt senior defensive tackle Ja'Mion Franklin each have 1.5 sacks to sit tied for fifth in the ACC. Oben is tied for a team best in quarterback pressures with three. The Blue Devils as a defensive unit have recorded five fumble recoveries on the year, all by different players, to rank first in the ACC and third in the nation.
STAND YOUR GROUND
Duke kept its opponent off the scoreboard for 78 minutes and 49 seconds, to begin the year before Northwestern broke through for a touchdown. Duke has five players with double-digit tackles on the year, led by graduate student Darius Joiner with 17. Juniors Dorian Mausi and Jaylen Stinson have chipped in with 15, while redshirt senior Shaka Heyward and sophomore Joshua Pickett have added 12 and 11 tackles, respectively. The Blue Devils are one of just two schools in the ACC with three players with 15+ tackles (Pittsburgh).
Joiner and Stinson became the first players this season to achieve double-digit tackles in a game with 14 and 11, respectively. Joiner's 14 tackles ranks tied with two others for first in the ACC for most tackles in a single game.
