OU Secures Series with Game Two Win - University of Oklahoma - Soonersports.com

NORMAN — No. 1 Oklahoma (28-0) secured its first conference series of the season on Saturday at Marita Hynes Field with a 8-0 win in five innings over Baylor.

OU won its 13th consecutive game by mercy-rule with the victory and 24th out of the team's 28 games.

The defense stole the show on Saturday with impressive plays by both the infield and outfield, notably a diving catch in foul territory by Jana Johns and a laser of a throw by Rylie Boone from right field to first base to deny the Bears a hit.

Sophomore Nicole May won her ninth game of the season in the circle, throwing a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts and two walks. It was OU's 16th shutout of the season.

The bats came alive in the third inning with the Sooners plating three runs on three hits. After a single from Jayda Coleman and walk to Tiare Jennings, senior captain Lynnsie Elam continued her hot streak with a two-RBI double to left center. Taylon Snow then brought in Elam on a single through the right side.

OU put up three more runs on four hits in the fourth. A two-RBI double from Jennings and RBI single from Elam highlighted the frame.

The defense showed its prowess at the top of the fifth. Boone rifled down a runner at first from right field before Jennings made a throw from her knees at second base to collect OU's second out. A fly out to Coleman in center closed the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, after a Coleman fielder's choice and walk to Jennings, senior Grace Lyons walked the game off in run-rule fashion on a two-run double to right center.

The win gives OU its 61st consecutive Big 12 series win and 61st win in its last 62 conference games.

The game marked the first in 12 games (Minnesota, March 7) that OU did not hit a home run and just the fifth game of the season the Sooners did not go yard.

Elam paced the team with a 2-for-3, three RBI showing while seven Sooners recorded a hit in the game and four brought in a run. Jennings and Lyons each chipped in 1-for-2, two-RBI, two-walk performances.

The top-ranked Sooners close the series vs. Baylor on Sunday at noon CT. The game can be seen on Bally Sports Oklahoma and heard on 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app.
