Baseball Plays Tuesday Home Game Against Bushnell - WOU Athletics

MONMOUTH, Ore. – It will be another midweek game for the Western Oregon University baseball team when they host Bushnell this Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the WOU Baseball Field.

This will be the second of four midweek games this season that will be played on Tuesday. The Wolves faced George Fox on Mar. 8 and after playing Bushnell this Tuesday, WOU will host George Fox on Apr. 5. Bushnell will host WOU on Apr. 19 in Eugene.

WOU (14-11) just finished playing a four-game road conference series at Northwest Nazarene. Although the Nighthawks took three of the games, the entire series was close with two games decided by a run and the other two decided by two runs.

It was another big week for the Maiben twins as both Jacob and Derek hit over .400 at NNU. Jacob Maiben posted a .438 average with seven hits, four runs, a double, two RBI, two walks and two steals. He led the Wolves and the GNAC for the week in average, hits and runs scored. Derek Maiben was right behind hitting .429 with six hits, three runs scored, a triple, a home run, four RBI, four walks and three steals. Jackson Holstad drove in three runs, while Anthony Zellner and John Stark drove in two runs apiece. Zellner also hit a home run.

On the mound, Mike Peterson had another strong start going 7.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He posted seven strikeouts and didn't issue a walk. Chris Hardin worked two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Bryce Bond started and went four innings, holding a 2.25 ERA with four strikeouts. Dwayne Angebrandt pitched in two games and posted a 2.45 ERA in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. Arturo Alvarez started and went six innings, allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts.

During the prior homestand, WOU picked up a pair of 3-1 series victories over conference foes Montana State Billings and Central Washington. The Wolves rolled to a sweep of the last doubleheader played at home which was against the Wildcats by scores of 8-2 and 9-3.

Bushnell was off to a 2-19 start to the season before winning four straight at home against Corban this past weekend to improve to 6-19. The Beacons piled up 38 runs in the four games. Bushnell is 0-13 on the road this season.

Jeff Fripp leads the way with a .315 average, tallying 23 hits, 18 runs, five doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI. Kyle Casperson is hitting .289 with 11 hits, a home run and 13 RBI. Jacob Stoner leads the team with 14 RBI.

On the mound, Daniel Furman leads the team with a 3.37 ERA in 2.2 innings. Gregory Joe adds a 3.60 ERA in five innings. Jahshua Yacapin leads the team with a 2-0 record in 25.2 innings and has a 4.21 ERA. Bushnell has nine pitchers that have pitched at least 10.2 innings and four that have over 20 innings on the year.

This will be the first regular season meeting between the teams.

Following the game against Bushnell, WOU will have the rest of the week off before returning to GNAC play at home on Apr. 2-3 against Saint Martin's.
