Three takeaways from Blues’ first game of current road trip - St. Louis Game Time

I don’t know about you, but it’s always to nice to see a Blues game on TNT.

The St. Louis Blues opened a four-game road trip with a game in Los Angeles against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. The Blues lost 3-2 to the Kings in the shootout in which Arthur Kaliyev scored the game-winning goal in the fourth round.

Hey, at least the Blues got a point. It’s better than nothing.

Here are my three takeways from the Blues’ first game of their current road trip.

Schenn’s power-play goal benefits himself and others
Brayden Schenn scored his third goal of the season, a power-play goal, at 6:48 of the second period. Assists on Schenn’s goal were awarded to Vladimir Tarasenko and Torey Krug.

Tarasenko’s sixth assist of the season allowed him to extend his point streak to seven games . Moreover, he tied Al MacInnis for eighth in Blues’ history in points (452).

Like Tarasenko, Krug recorded his sixth assist of the season. He’s a significant part of the team’s defense. He fits in fairly well with his defensive pair partner Justin Faulk. He’ll likely bounce back defensively this season, just like Faulk did last season.

Krug also scored the game-tying goal, a short-handed, empty-net goal, and forced overtime with a 2-2 tie.

Blues kept up their tempo
The Blues finished the first period with a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. They maintained their tempo in the second period, outshooting the Kings 13-10. Their dominance existed in the neutral zone. They kept the Kings outside with little to no puck control.

However, LA bounced back in the third period. They nearly outshot the Blues, trailing 12-11. But their shots actually got into the net. Arthur Kaliyev and Adrian Kempe scored two goals in six minutes, giving the Kings a 2-1 lead at 12:15 of the third.

The Blues kept up their tempo, but at the same time, they gave their fans mini heart attacks. But then again, they seem to do this over and over again. This seems to be in their nature.

Binnington made some highlight reel saves
Jordan Binnington stopped 33 of 35 shots. He made some highlight reel saves in 63 minutes and 41 seconds of total ice time. Like this one below.

Binnington has his good and bad days, but the real Binnington stood up on Wednesday night. Great job, Binner!

The Blues head to the Bay Area to take on the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night at 9:30 pm Central.
