These Section III athletes shone brightest in title game spotlight - syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Section III’s top high school athletes took advantage of their one and only championship game showcases on Saturday.

Competitors at 20 classifications in baseball, softball and boys and girls lacrosse vied for banners in title games. The day was the wrapup of an abbreviated one-week playoff schedule. Because of Covid, it was the first sectional postseason play since the winter of 2019-20.

Here’s a rundown of some of the players who stood out the most:

Boys lacrosse

Michael Marsallo, Baldwinsville

He tallied three times to carry the Bees past West Genesee and claim the Class A banner.

Game story

Pratt Reynolds, Fayetteville-Manlius

He led the way with four goals as the Hornets toppled East Syracuse Minoa in the B contest.

Johnny Keib, Jamesville-DeWitt

He was dominant with seven goals to power the Red Rams past CBA for the C championship.

Owen Mahar, Westhill

The freshman goalie made 13 stops to lift his team to a Class D decision over LaFayette.

Mackenzie Prentice, Cicero-North Syracuse

Her overtime goal in the Class A title contest against Baldwinsville gave the Northstars their first sectional title since 1997.

Gracie Giannettino, Auburn

She piled up four goals and five assists to propel the Maroons to a Class B win over Fayetteville-Manlius.

Lily Loewenguth, Jamesville-DeWitt

She posted three scores to give the Red Rams their fourth-straight sectional crown with a Class C win over Fulton.

She buried four goals to pace the Lakers to a Class D title.

Aiden Milburn, Baldwinsville

He drilled a homer and drove in four runs to rally the Bees to a win over West Genesee in the Class A contest.

Boule shut out Auburn over 5 1/3 innings on three hits to push the Brothers past Auburn in the Class A game.

He went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBIs to power his team past Homer in the B-1 contest,

Musso hurled seven innings for the Lakers, allowing just one run on six hits, walking none and striking out six in the B-2 game.

He drilled a walk-off RBI single in extra innings to give his team the Class C-1 title.

He fanned 12 in seven innings to lift his team over West Canada Valley in the Class C-2 game.

Alayna Harbaugh, Cicero-North Syracuse

The Northstars capped a perfect season in large part because of the three RBI Harbaugh produced in the Class AA win over Liverpool.

She scored three runs and drilled a pair of hits to help the Maroons win their first-ever softball crown with a 7-6 upset of J-D.

Hannah Durand, Marcellus

She drove in three runs and scored twice as the Mustangs claimed their first-ever sectional softball title with a Class B win over Oneida.

She delivered 5 RBI and scored three times as Pulaski bumped off Cooperstown in the Class C game.

She went 3-for-3 and had four runs scored as well as four RBI in her team’s win over Poland in Class D.
