Syracuse, N.Y. -- Section III’s top high school athletes took advantage of their one and only championship game showcases on Saturday.
Competitors at 20 classifications in baseball, softball and boys and girls lacrosse vied for banners in title games. The day was the wrapup of an abbreviated one-week playoff schedule. Because of Covid, it was the first sectional postseason play since the winter of 2019-20.
Here’s a rundown of some of the players who stood out the most:
Boys lacrosse
Michael Marsallo, Baldwinsville
He tallied three times to carry the Bees past West Genesee and claim the Class A banner.
Pratt Reynolds, Fayetteville-Manlius
He led the way with four goals as the Hornets toppled East Syracuse Minoa in the B contest.
Johnny Keib, Jamesville-DeWitt
He was dominant with seven goals to power the Red Rams past CBA for the C championship.
Owen Mahar, Westhill
The freshman goalie made 13 stops to lift his team to a Class D decision over LaFayette.
Girls lacrosse

Her overtime goal in the Class A title contest against Baldwinsville gave the Northstars their first sectional title since 1997.
