Soccer to Finish Spring Schedule With Neutral Site Game This Wednesday Versus Western Washington - WOU Athletics

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Western Oregon University soccer team will close out what has been a busy spring season this Wednesday when they will face Western Washington in a neutral site game in Vancouver.

The Wolves are 1-6 overall, but their record moves to 3-6 in total games played this spring having defeated Linfield (3-1) and Humboldt State (4-1) in exhibition contests. This past week, WOU faced #10 Northwest Nazarene for Senior Day with the teams playing a tough game before the Nighthawks came away with the 2-0 victory. WOU held NNU to 13 shots, while the Wolves tallied six of their own attempts. WOU nearly recorded a goal in the first half when the ball bounced loose in the box and Piper Matson was nearly able to guide it home before the rolling ball was saved on the goal line.

Alyssa Tomasini leads the team with 11 points, picking up five goals and an assist. Hannah Rispler collected a goal against Linfield, while freshmen Camille Darland, Matson, Liz Parker and Lilly Nowatzke have all scored their first collegiate goals this spring. In goal, Morgan Mihelich has picked up a pair of wins this season, while Emily Wheeler has the other victory. Wheeler started this past game against NNU and tallied two saves. Kendall Rooney and Cassidy Flammang have all seen time in goal this spring.

WOU opened the spring season on Mar. 7 and were able to get 10 games in within a nearly two-month span with the game coming up this Wednesday. It will be the second time this year the Wolves have played in Vancouver and at the Harmony Sports Complex. WOU opened the spring on Mar. 7 against Carroll College in Vancouver.

WWU played an exciting game last time out against Seattle Pacific scoring in the 90th minute to send the game to overtime before the teams eventually tied at 4. So far this spring, the Vikings are 1-0-2, having opened with a 0-0 tie with Pacific Lutheran and then defeated Saint Martin's by a 1-0 score. All three of their games have been played at home.

Estera Levinte leads WWU with two goals and an assist. Zola Carbone, Dayanna Diaz and Darby Doyle have all added goals for WWU. In net, Natalie Dierickx has started two games picking up a win and eight saves. Abigail Trengove has both ties in goal and has six saves.

WOU has gone 5-32-1 against WWU since 2000, with the Vikings winning the last seven meetings. The teams tied in 2014 in Monmouth (1-1) and the last win for the Wolves was in 2013 in Monmouth (1-0). This will be the second time this teams have played a neutral site game since 2000, with the last coming in 2012 at Tukwila, Wash., with WWU taking the 2-0 victory.

With the game being played at a neutral site, there won't be live video or stats. Updates will be posted once available on wouwolves.com.
