MLB Game Preview & Predictions: Marlins vs. Rays—April 1, 2021 - Fish Stripes

Welcome to Thursday’s Marlins (0-0) vs. Rays (0-0) Opening Day game thread.

Fish Picks has indeed returned for a third season! After receiving picks from 200-plus unique users in 2020 on fishstripes.com and the @fishstripes Twitter account, we are aiming for even more engagement. It’s always free to participate and the prizes are real.

Fans can find the props within game threads like this one or as the pinned tweet on our Twitter account. They will be posted at least four hours prior to the game’s scheduled first pitch (assuming both the Marlins and their opponent declare a probable starting pitcher by then). Generally, there will be five props per game, four about individual/team stats and the final one always being the moneyline pick (which team will win). Picks are only valid if commented or tweeted to us prior to first pitch.

Your goal every day is to “pick a perfect game” and choose the correct outcome for each prop. Whoever has the most perfect games each month receives a t-shirt of their choice from our partners at Legends of Dade!

Rays Lineup

  1. 1B Yoshi Tsutsugo
  2. LF Austin Meadows
  3. RF Randy Arozarena
  4. 2B Brandon Lowe
  5. 3B Yandy Díaz
  6. CF Kevin Kiermaier
  7. SS Willy Adames
  8. C Mike Zunino
  9. P Tyler Glasnow (2020 season stats: 4.08 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 38.2 K%, 41.6 Hard Hit% in 57.1 IP)

Notes: The Rays have won 10 of their last 11 games in the Citrus Series dating back to 2018...After previously relying almost exclusively on his fastball and curveball, Glasnow is striving to become a more complete pitcher by introducing a slider this year. The new weapon accounted for 18.1% of his spring training pitch mix in games tracked by Statcast...Tampa Bay doesn’t have a conventional closer. Old friend Nick Anderson was the club’s top candidate to receive save opportunities, but he suffered an elbow injury last month.

Notes: Paul Campbell, Jazz Chisholm Jr., John Curtiss, Zach Pop and Trevor Rogers will each be experiencing MLB Opening Day for the first time in their respective careers...CEO Derek Jeter on Wednesday expressed optimism that the Marlins will be permitted to host full-capacity crowds later this season. But for Opening Day, they’re capped at approximately 9,000 socially distanced fans, among them, a select group of frontline healthcare heroes from The University of Miami Health System.

How to watch/listen/follow

First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET. Watch on Bally Sports Florida...assuming it’s included in your cable package/TV bundle. If not, AT&T TV has a limited time offer through The Streamable to get you hooked up along with a $75 Amazon gift card. Brace yourself for “new looks and music” coinciding with the network’s rebrand (after decades as FOX Sports Florida).

The radio broadcast will air on 940 WINZ.
