Gettysburg Wins 9-0 in Opener and Takes the Second Game, 8-2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Host Gettysburg took both ends of the Centennial Conference opening doubleheader from visiting Washington College on Sunday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field.  The Bullets took game one in five innings, 9-0, due to the eight-run rule and jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two on their way to an 8-2 victory.  The Bullets win their first two games of the season, while the Shorewomen drop to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Gettysburg 9 Washington College 0 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- The Bullets scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the second inning as Allie Cluster singled to left field to plate Abby Zucatti with two outs as the hosts lead 1-0 after two.
- In the last of the third, Gettysburg struck for three runs to push its lead to 4-0.  With one away, Emily Colline hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Baily Quinn to make it 2-0 and the next hitter, Olivia Moser singled to shortstop and it scored both Giovanna Komst and Jess Campana to cap the scoring in the frame.
- Gettysburg tacked on five runs in the bottom half of the fourth to push its lead to 9-0.  The big hit in the inning came on a three-run double to center by Moser with one away that scored Komst, Campana and Shelby Baker.
- Washington got two runners on with two outs in the top of the fifth, but could not score two runs to continue the game as it ended due to the eight-run rule.

For The Shorewomen (2-5, 0-1 CC)
- Hitting: Julia Hallman and Amelia Mazza (1-for-2)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 2-3, complete game, 10 hits, nine runs, five earned, two walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington committed two errors in game one, leading to three Gettysburg runs.
- The Shorewomen had two hits and drew three walks in the game, while leaving four on base.

For Gettysburg (1-0, 1-0 CC)
- Hitting: Moser (2-for-3, five RBI), Quinn (2-for-2, two runs), Campana and Komst (two runs)
- Pitching: Megan Hughes (win 1-0, complete game, two hits, zero runs, three walks, two strikeouts)
- Gettysburg did not commit an error in the opener.
-The Bullets had 10 hits and drew two walks, while stranding five on base.

Gettysburg 8 Washington College 2 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- In the bottom half of the first, the Bullets' Baker doubled to center with two away to score both Moser and Colline for the game's first pair of runs.
- Gettysburg tacked on two more runs in the last of the second to push the lead to 4-0.  With one out, Cluster scored on a double to center by Komst to make it 3-0.  With two away, Campana singled to left to drive in Komst to make it a four-run advantage.
- Baker led off the last of the third with a home run to give Gettysburg a 5-0 cushion.  With two away, Komst socked a two-run double to left center to chase home both Zucatti and MC Waddell to give the hosts a 7-0 lead after three.
- With two outs in the top of the sixth, the Shorewomen got two runs courtesy of a two-run double to left-center by Mazza that scored both Barnhart and Hannah Solge.
- The Bullets would get one back in the bottom of the sixth when Moser scored on a throwing error with nobody out to make it 8-2 and provided the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (2-6, 0-2 CC)
- Hitting: Mazza (1-for-3, two RBI), Solge (2-for-3, triple, run), Lexie Witmer (2-for-3, walk)
- Pitching: Ashley Politza (loss 0-3, 2 2/3 innings, 12 hits, seven runs, seven earned, zero walks, one strikeout), Barnhart (3 1/3 innings, three hits, one run, zero earned, zero walks, one strikeout)
- The Shorewomen had eight hits in the game and drew one walk as they left seven on base.
- WC had two errors in the field, leading to one unearned runs for the hosts.

For Gettysburg (2-0, 2-0 CC)
- Hitting: Komst (3-for-3, three RBI, two doubles), Moser (3-for-4, two runs), Campana (2-for-4, RBI), Baker (2-for-4, home run, three RBI), Colline (2-for-4, run)
- Pitching: Jasmin Herrera (win 1-0, five innings, six hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, one strikeout)
- The Bullets had 15 hits without the aid of a walk in the second game as they left eight on base.
- Gettysburg committed zero errors in the field.
