HARRISBURG -- The Mitchell High School girls basketball team suffered its first loss since Dec. 20, 2020, as Class AA No. 3 Harrisburg snapped its 10-game win streak. The Tigers’ fourth-quarter surge sent it past the No. 5 Kernels, 60-52, on Saturday.
Mitchell’s slow start on offense resulted in a 25-19 halftime deficit, with the Kernels shooting 27.8 percent from the field. Coming out of halftime, Mitchell exploded on offense. It scored 24 points in the third quarter to tie the game at 43-43 entering the fourth frame.
Despite shooting 60 percent from the field in the second half, Harrisburg pulled away in the final frame.
Emilee Boyer scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Tigers. Carolyn Haar and Sydney Hybertson scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Macy Kempf paced the Kernels with 18 points. Adaya Plastow added nine points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Sawyer Stoebner chipped in seven rebounds. Camryn Krogman scored eight points.
Mitchell (13-3) travels to Yankton on Friday.
