The last time No. 6 Florida and Tennessee met in December was way back in 2001 when the Volunteers defeated the Gators in a 34-32 thriller that decided the winner of the SEC East. The stakes are not quite as high this time for Tennessee, but Florida needs a win to clinch the SEC East and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. The Gators got off to a good start by taking a 24-7 lead through three quarters at Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Kyle Trask led the Gators on a five-play, 75-yard scoring drive to begin the third quarter and give his team a three-possession lead. Meanwhile, the Volunteers started a true freshman at QB in Harrison Bailey. He led Tennessee on a 96-yard scoring drive in the first half, but he has his hands full in keeping up with Trask, who reached 37 touchdowns for the season in the third quarter. That's the second-most in a single season in UF history, and Trask has accomplished it in fewer than nine games against SEC competition.
