No. 1 Alabama leads LSU 45-14 after one half of play in Death Valley in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver DeVonta Smith have led the offensive onslaught for a team that has revenge on its mind after LSU's win in Tuscaloosa last season. Jones is 15-of-19 passing for 338 yards and four touchdowns; and Smith has seven catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Najee Harris got the scoring started for the Crimson Tide with touchdown runs of 14 yards and 1 yard in the first quarter. Alabama scored on every one of its first half possessions with the exception of kneeling before the half in what has been one of the most impressive offensive performances of the season.
LSU has had its moments, though. Jontre Kirklin picked up a Kayshon Boutte fumble in the end zone after Boutte dropped the ball prior to going into the end zone to get LSU on the board in the second quarter. Running back John Emery Jr. added a 54-yard touchdown run later in the second quarter to give LSU life … at least, temporarily.
