Lightning-Bruins Game 2 playoff updates - Tampa Bay Times

And here all this time we thought we needed to be worried about Victor Hedman.

The Lightning defenseman and Norris Trophy finalist left the final round-robin game on Aug. 8 with an apparent ankle injury and cut short his skate before the last game of the first-round series against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

But while Hedman has played in every postseason game, fellow defenseman Ryan McDonagh will be out of the lineup when the Lightning meet the Bruins tonight in Game 2 of their conference semifinal series at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

McDonagh, whose ice time ranks second only to Hedman among Tampa Bay skaters, was injured while colliding with Boston’s Connor Clifton early in the third period of Game 1. Lightning captain Steven Stamkos, who has yet to play since the league’s return from a 4-1/2-month pause due to the coronavirus, also remains out with a lower-body injury.

How much will their absences impact the Lightning, which trail the series 1-0?

Follow along with us tonight, starting at 7 p.m., as Tampa Bay aims to even the series. It’s the first of back-to-back games against its fiercest rival.
