The PC Gaming Show 2020 – Best Games Out This Year - Unpause Asia

It’s been a wild week of news and for the first time in a while, it isn’t about anything sad. Yay. Since we’re all at home for “fake E3” we’ve had showcase after showcase of games. It started with Sony’s huge announcement of the PlayStation 5 and all its subsequent games. (Full list in this article). Followed by The PC Gaming Show, Guerrilla Collective and The Future Games Show. There’s a lot going on and so much to be excited for.

For those in the master race, The PC Gaming Show 2020 delivered to us more than 2 hours of trailers and game announcements. It’s a lot to digest that even we had to divide this list into two pages. But have no fear, we’ve got your back with our PC Gaming Show 2020 roundup article – Part One! This one focuses on all the games coming out this year. Enjoy it and let us know in the comments below what game you’re looking forward to! Here’s Part Two, all the games coming out next year for you to tab open to read later.

The Last Campfire by Hello Games

We first saw The Last Campfire at 2018’s Game Awards. Quite the departure from the highly ambitious No Man’s Sky, The Last Campfire is a little adventure puzzle game that looks extremely charming. In this game, you play as a lost ember searching for a way home. The music and graphics have already got me and I’m prepared for the story to be absolutely heartwrenching. I mean Sean Murray hasn’t exactly said that it will in so many words. But you can just feel it ya know? The Last Campfire will be out Summer 2020 (like now?) according to the Epic Games Store. The game is also scheduled to be released on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC – Steam Store.

Among Trees by FJRD Interactive

Did you see how GORGEOUS this game is? Homygod. I mean this could just be the quarantine talking but I literally want to dive into this beautiful natural world. FJRD is a three man team from Sweden and Among Trees is being descirbed as a ‘small vibrant sandbox’. The caption on the website reads “Have you ever wanted to escape to the woods and build a life for yourself in the heart of a lush forest, where your day-to-day focus would be growing your own food, crafting tools, exploring the surroundings, and making your cabin extra cozy? This is the game for you.” It’s like they’ve seen into my lockded down soul and they know. Among Trees is available to purchase now for USD $9.99 and will be coming out ‘Summer 2020’ on the Epic Games Store.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town

After waiting what feels like forever for the English translation of Friends of Mineral Town to launch on the Nintendo Switch I now find out it’s launching on PC! Yay! This is by far THE best Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons) game and I think I restarted my character at least three times over in my childhood. Man, I had a lot of free time back then. I’m so happy to see Friends of Mineral Town get such a great looking remake. If you haven’t played this game before think of it as the OG farming sim. If you enjoyed Stardew Valley or My Time at Portia, you’ll want this one. I was already going to get it when it launched on July 14th but now we can choose between the Switch and PC – Steam.

Mortal Shell by Cold Symmetry

Mortal Shell is the Dark Souls 4 title that we wanted FromSoftware to make, but they didn’t. Now developer Cold Symmetry has taken up the mantle and is releasing their own title. I mean just look at it. A ruthless and deep-action RPG it’s one that will test all your instincts, survivability and precision. One clear difference however between Dark Souls is that your ‘class’ is determined by what shell your ghostly spirit form is wearing at the time.  Not many specifics are out but we’re definitely going to get more information soon because Mortal Shell is hosting an open beta on July 3rd. To sign up be sure to log into their Discord and register. Mortal Shell is scheduled for a Q3 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC – Epic Games Store.

Cris Tales by Modus Games

Looking for another JRPG? Of course, you are. Cris Tales is a love letter to classic JRPGs but this time you can play from a new perspective. Peer into the past, act in the present and watch as your choices dynamically change the future. Not only are the hand-drawn 2D animations of Cris Tales a winner but that gameplay sounds too good to pass up. Using turn-based combat you can warp your enemies into the past or future. And master timing to go beyond your party’s limits in combat. This game makes Hermoine’s time turner look like a joke and because it’s a JRPG you know that the story is going to get wild. Cris Tales is coming out November 17th for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Google Stadia (that’s still happening?) and PC – Steam.
