The 2019 Stanley Cup Finals have reached a pivotal point with the puck dropping for Game 3 between the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins later Saturday evening. The series is now tied at one game apiece after Boston dug out of an early deficit to handily win the opener, followed by St. Louis striking back with a clutch overtime win on the road in Game 2. Notching a victory in Game 3 will go a long way towards either team’s goal of lifting Lord Stanley’s Cup, as the winner of this matchup has historically gone on to win the championship just over 70% of the time.
Oddsmakers are giving the slightest of edges to the Blues in Game 3, opening the home team as a -128 favorite to win tonight. The books subsequently adjusted that line down to -110 due to sharp action on the Bruins, who are currently even money (+100) and responsible for 53% of all public bets and 59% of the total cash wagered on the moneyline. The total for this 2019 Stanley Cup Finals game opened and has steadily remained at five goals, although a whopping 71% of public tickets and 88% of money are on the over side of that bet.
Will Boston find a way to bounce back after that heartbreaking loss on Wednesday, or will the Blues keep it rolling with the series now shifting to their home ice for a pair of matchups? Boston Bruins vs. St. Louis Blues Game 3 Quotes
Via ASAP Sports
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about how his team can get back on track after finally losing in the 2019 NHL Playoffs:
We've been in enemy territory. Toronto, not easy to win there. Went to Columbus, Carolina. We got a veteran crew. They've been there before. I don't anticipate they'll be overwhelmed. I suspect St. Louis will be up, should be. The team is in the Stanley Cup Finals. How we prepare coming off a losing streak? We kind of prepare the same every game: prepare to win, what we need to do to win. Didn't assume it would go on forever, and it didn't.
Blues head coach Craig Berube is excited to see how the crowd reacts to St. Louis’ first home Stanley Cup Finals game in decades:
It will be a great atmosphere, for sure. It has been all Playoffs. I think the fans, they've been great all year. We have a great fan base here, great support from the city. Everybody's really excited right now obviously with the Blues being in the Finals. Again, it's going to be a great atmosphere. It's going to be a lot of intensity, I'll tell you that.
Boston center Patrice Bergeron isn’t worried about winning in hostile territory:
We know it's going to be electric. There's a buzz there in St. Louis right now, on their team. No different than how it was here in Boston. We've been through it before. I think for some of the young guys, Carolina was very loud, it was a loud building, not necessarily easy to play in. I think it's always about simplifying your game and taking it not a shift at a time, but a period at a time. I think the first goal is always huge in the game. We know St. Louis likes to start strong. It's about worrying about what you control, how you play.
St. Louis center Ryan O’Reilly discussed how dangerous the Bruins powerplay unit is:
They have elite personnel out there. They work well all together, the way they move the puck. There's so many threats we have to be on. We have to be as quick as possible. If we're not working, get tired out there, they're going to make us pay. It's paying attention to every little detail from the draw to making sure if we get a chance to clear it, forcing them to have to go all the way back, having quick changes to stay fresh. Yeah, it's a very good power play. We have to stay out of the box. When we have a chance to kill, make sure we're super intense.
