Since Valve either can’t count to three or is too busy making money off Steam, we’ve yet to see a third entry in the Half-Life series. It’s entirely possible a dimension exists where Half-Life 3 (and other sequels) exist. However, in this dimension, we’re still waiting on the next Gordon Freeman adventure. Surprisingly enough, our pal Gordon is finally returning to PC via one of the strangest crossovers of the year.
The PC version of Final Fantasy XV is set to release in early March. When it arrives, players will have the ability to dress protagonist Noctis up like Gordon Freeman. The getup includes Freeman’s HEV suit and spectacles. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Gordon Freeman dress up party without his signature crowbar for a weapon. The costume can also be used in the multiplayer expansion called “Comrades.” That’s right, you’ll be able to play as Gordon Freeman online. If you’re going to have this sort of crossover it’s better to go all in, I suppose.
The most surprising thing about all of this is how it’s actually official. You’d figure someone in the modding community would eventually create Gordon Freeman in FFXV, but Square-Enix and Valve beat them to the punch. Is this cameo hinting at Half-Life 3? Probably not. After all, Final Fantasy XV has crossed over with other titles. These include Forza Horizon 3 and Assassin’s Creed. Even Final Fantasy XIII-2 had Mass Effect costumes. It would be nice if this was a sign of Half-Life‘s resurrection, but I doubt that’s the case. It’s just a good bit of fun for those planning to get FFXV on PC.
Final Fantasy XV arrives on PC on March 3. It will boast native 4K and 8K textures. On top of that, players can expect a larger map, an optional first-person perspective, and the ability to ride a boat.
