At this point, the Switch has received third party support from Sony and Microsoft, both.
Sony has announced a brand new label for publishing indie games under Sony Music (the division of the company that has also been responsible for its last few mobile outings). The label is called ‘Unties’, and will use Sony Music’s channels and know-how to develop and release console and PC games.
They have announced a bunch of games they will be publishing, including Advance Wars like Tiny Metal, which will be coming to PC, PS4, and, interestingly enough, the Nintendo Switch. They have also announced a bunch of other games- you can see trailers for all of them below.
“At Unties, we dig up the masterpieces buried in those situations, and support them so that more users notice and pick them up. We spread information about excellent games and sell titles for multiple platforms,” Sony’s statement said.
“The name “Unties” comes from the thought “to unleash the excellent talents of unique game creators all over the world” and “setting creators free from the various shackles of game publishing, named from the intention of realizing publication that is freedom of production without restraints.”
It will be interesting to see exactly what the label brings to the market going forward. Interestingly enough, the Switch at this point has received third party support from Microsoft and Sony, both- it is amusing, because just about a year ago, people were expecting Nintendo to go third party. Today, Nintendo’s console on the market is receiving games from Sony and Microsoft. What an interesting turn of events.
