According to a post on the official Larian website, the studio has changed its mind, and the team feels no remorse. At the midpoint of Original Sin II’s production, the vast scope of the game began to weigh heavily on the development team, with time and budget restraints limiting the amount of voice acting that could be included. Starting small, the team implemented some one-liners and voice barks, but felt that simply was not enough—the studio wanted the characters of Original Sin II to talk, and talk a lot.
To that end, Larian hired four recording studios to work non-stop, creating the voices for over 1,000 NPCs speaking more than 1,000,000 words. A video on YouTube details this process, as well as the creation of Original Sin II’s orchestral score and ambient sounds.
Divinity: Original Sin II is an upcoming RPG set 1,000 years after the events of its predecessor. The game’s plot revolves around war and persecution, as Bishop Alexandar the Innocent declares all Sourcerers criminals, forcing four magic-adepts to band together in an effort to defeat him. Players choose their character’s statistics, race, and origin story, while dynamic dialogue and quests change according to their decisions. Skill crafting allows gamers to alter the way their skills work, and the featured “Love and Hate” system gives players the chance to foster relationships or rivalries with followers they recruit.
