Sonic Mania will finally release next week for console owners. Unfortunately, PC users will have to wait a tad longer to get their hands on it.
During a livestream, Sega revealed the PC port of Sonic Mania will now launch on August 29. That is exactly two weeks after it releases on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Sega decided to delay this release in order to better optimize the game.
Those who pre-ordered the collector’s edition of Sonic Mania will still get their big beautiful box on August 15. Along with goodies such as a statue of Sonic standing on top of a Sega Genesis, the collector’s edition comes with a digital code for Sonic Mania. This code won’t unlock the game until August 29 for PC users, but it will allow them to claim a free copy of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic Mania has been delayed several times already, so this announcement certainly stings. At the same time, the game is being delayed for a good reason. We’re always hearing about how buggy games are at launch these days. This is something the Sonic team doesn’t want for Sonic Mania, so they’re taking their time to get things right.
In other Sonic Mania news, Sega recently released a video of the game’s intro. We got to see a small portion of this a few months back, so it’s nice to see the full thing. Sonic Mania is heavily inspired by Sonic CD, and this animated intro is no different in that regard. If Sega ever decides to make a new Sonic cartoon, it would be wise for them to go with a style like this. I’ve seen the intro of Sonic CD more times than I can count, and I’ll certainly watch the intro for Sonic Mania a ton of times too. Everything about it is fantastic.
If you haven’t already, you can still pre-order Sonic Mania from Amazon.
